About me
Hi! I’m Jan, a designer, autodidact, father of two and a film lover with an affinity for tasty coffee and beautiful curves.
I studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam. During my time there, I focused on graphic and type design. A decisive influence on me was Luc(as) de Groot, who sparked my passion for drawing letters. I started working at LucasFonts while I was still a student, getting involved in expanding the font library, and worked on client projects. Meanwhile, I began to develop my own typefaces and distribute them independently. I also work as a freelance designer, creating logos and building websites. I am always up for interesting type-related projects.
I see type as a fundamental part of any graphical work. Type is the basis of visual communication, as it conveys information and emotion. My ambition is to make type work, whether by designing letters or by using them in a concrete application.
I am not a big fan of complexity. I like clarity and reducing things to the essentials. Simplicity helps me to structure my work and take care of the details. It’s the many little things that, when they work flawlessly together, form a harmonious and high-quality whole.
If you want to learn more about me, have an idea for a project or just want to say hello, just send me a few lines.
